When deciding my field site, I wanted to pick a place that was not close to school because I wanted a very unbiased place to observe. I also had to take into account that the place that I was going to observe needed to be a semi crowded place, so I can get the best possible results. I narrowed down my options to the Tim Hortons food court in Cedarbrae mall. I decided to pick this spot because it meet my criteria, and was also relatively busy and convenient for my mother. When I first arrived to my field site, I found it to be over crowded, to the point where there were very limited options to where I could sit. However, as soon as shoppers came in others left, so spots were emptied quickly. I found a spot in the middle of the food court. I took this spot because it gave me a bird’s eye view of every person I could potentially observe.
The method I took when gaining field notes was not to rush, and look very anxious. This would give other customers a bad feeling about what I was doing and potentially lose potential targets to watch. After finding my spot, I decided that I should buy a drink so I could fit in …show more content…
This finding was evident throughout the whole time I was observing. I noticed that males are more calm and relaxed when it comes to socializing. The men did not move around much, besides the third man going to the washroom for a couple of minutes then coming back. Also, they like to stay in small groups rather than big groups. Moreover, I noticed that males are not as touchy when it comes to talking, or showing body language. The group of men kept some sort of distance from each other but still managed to get their point across to the others, contradicting females. The group of men also showed less emotion in what they were saying, they didn’t argue at all and changed subjects very quickly. The tone of their voice remained mostly the same throughout, despite hints of laughter every now and
