Collaborating Community Nursing and Faith Based Nursing Faith based nursing was previously known as parish community nursing due to its origins from Christian faith (Blais, 2015). However, the term faith based nursing was coined in order to accommodate nursing from other faiths apart from Christianity. In particular, faith based nursing placing emphasis on care and health promotion which is within the beliefs, values and practices of the faith community, individual or family served. Faith based nursing does not only refer to individual care, but promotion of health within the entire community. The healthcare system has been encouraged to recognize and familiarize with term community in order to improve healthcare in the United States. The main reason why community based care has gained popularity over the years is that it broadens the horizon of the healthcare system (Whisenant et al., 2014). It enables vulnerable and underserved members to receive healthcare. Hence, cooperative partnerships between faith community and community nurses are revolutionary. One of the main advantages is that faith based organizations have a high level of trust among individuals in their community (Blais, 2015). Faith communities have provided spiritual renewal and refuge for years and have always been powerful vehicles in terms of political, social and economic change. In the same perspective, faith based community care has the potential to provide patient sensitive care that is of a higher quality. The intent of the project is to improve the health of American citizens. The program has been present for three decades and has continued to set benchmarks for healthcare. The aim of the project is to empower individuals into making the appropriate health decisions, encourage the collaboration between sectors and communities and measure the impact of preventing diseases. Hence, the communities may incorporate the goals of Healthy People 2020 by educating and promoting healthy lifestyle during the gatherings. This will enable individuals to make the appropriate decisions in terms of their healthcare as they are aware of the resources they can use and the appropriate approaches in reducing different pathologies. In addition, the communities may also encourage individuals in their community with healthcare education to assist in the provision of care and prevention and management of diseases. Healthy People 2020 also address goals that are targeted at management of chronic pathologies. Hence during the gatherings, faith communities could ask individuals with chronic pathologies to share their testimonies. This will be helpful for individuals with the same pathologies to interact and share different experiences in the management of their condition.
