Spirituality is defined as a relationship with God and the extraordinary values which “reflects a ‘fleshes out’ the experiences of one’s relationship with God through one’s belief, values, lifestyle, quality of life, and interactions with self, others, and nature” (Taylor, 2002, p. 7). Spirituality is very important in our lives and in health care because having a powerful spiritual perspective can help you find meaning in life. Having a spiritual knowledge is important because it shows what you believe in.
Client History and Health Status My interviewer was interviewed on June 5, 2018. Ramon is a male and a 21-year old college student. He was born on August 3, 1996, and raised in Big Island of Hawaii. He is the second children born to an both Filipino mother and father. His parents are divorced and have 3 half siblings, one lives on the same Island and two are in New York. He is a full-time student and an art major at University of Hawaii and will be graduating in Fall 2018. He loves to play basketball and he started playing since middle school until the junior in high school. He also loves to draw and paint, make designs such as invitations, tattoos, and business logos. During his last year in high school, he decided to join soccer instead of basketball to try new things. Being spiritual makes you live longer. After analyzing his answers from Spirituality Assessment Scale, it seems like he inherited some of the psychosocial issues from his mother side. If Ramon was diagnosed with an illness like depression, since he does not seem to have an appropriate support system to help him cope with depression it would be most likely that he would face spiritual distress.
