Community Intervention.
C. Cate, the public health nurse for the town of Randolph, was interviewed regarding the type of resources available to help reduce and prevent IPV in the community. The public health nurse works closely with the Randolph Police Department to identify IPV victims in the community and refer people who are identified or show signs of being in an abusive relationship to Domestic violence Ended (DOVE) which lead domestic violence agency for the South Shore area (personal communication March 22, 2016). Each year the town applies for a grant from the Department of Justice to hire a Dove employee who works with the Randolph Police Department to assist victims and witnesses of domestic violence in the community (personal communication, 2016). Cate is responsible for holding a monthly luncheons where different topics including violence prevention are discussed. The public nurse also runs ongoing educational programs on prevention, especially for the young people in the community to spread awareness that domestic violence is illegal. Finally, Cate works closely with DOVE to find ways to reduce IPV in the community. She also highly recommends DOVE website for additional resources for victims of IPV.
Weaknesses: The town of Randolph is very limited in terms of available resources to assist victims of IPV because of lack of funding .Although the community has ongoing education prevention programs for the entire community, and especially for Asian women , the town is in need of more volunteers and employees. In addition it would be beneficial for the community of Randolph to have its own agency and shelters to assist those victims of IPV. Also Cate emphasized the lack of funding to do more outreach in this area of IPV. (Personal communication March 22,
