Community In The Outsiders

In the Novel The Outsiders there are lots of forms of community and love in the community. Community, according to google.com is ”a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.” This definition very much represents the Greasers feeling of community. For example some community I noticed most was the bond that the Greasers had with each other, especially Ponyboy, Sodapop, and Darry after their parents died. The Soc’s also have community and in my opinion the thing that separates Greasers and Soc’s most is how they think about community.

In the novel The Outsiders The one thing that stood out to me most was when Johnny was in the hospital and they all came together to try to make him feel better. They just couldn’t though he was in too bad of shape after the piece of wood fell on his back. Another thing that stood out to me about community is that the definition says that to have community you should have common interests and goals. To me that explains why the Greasers and Socs did not get along; because they did not have common interests or goals because of their money differences. The greasers were just trying to get by and the Soc’s were trying to show off with expensive things and clothes. …show more content…
For example in the rumble Darry helped Ponyboy when he was having trouble fighting off a Soc. Or when in the first five pages Ponyboy gets jumped and the gang all helped him get back home and fight them off. In this novel there are good and bad communities.
