Community Group Assignment Analysis

The topic for our community group assignment was chair yoga. Based on the research articles we have gathered, there were many physical and psychological benefits for the older adult population to practice yoga. These benefits included increasing strength and balance, as well as decreasing stress and depression for older adults. Interestingly, when we asked the elderly participants at Seashore Gardens about their knowledge on the topic, many of the participants only knew about the term ‘yoga’ but had little to no knowledge on the practice of yoga.
Working together with my group members for this assignment has been an interesting experience because our working style and personality was so diverse. At the beginning of the project, we each share our strengths and weakness on how to contribute to the assignment. While everyone was tasked to find journal articles on the effects yoga had on older adults and contributing to the treatment plan, we were each given an additional task based on our strengths. For instance, from a strength-based perspective, I am quite proficient and creative using Microsoft Word to develop

To ensure a successful session, we have brought all the necessary tools to conduct our activities, such as speakers and beach balls. However, not everything went accordingly to plan despite due to unforeseen circumstances. For instance, we have planned to facilitate chair yoga in a quiet room with a medium-sized open area for wheelchairs to equally distance participants. Instead, we were requested to perform our activity in the hallway near a nursing station. Due to many participants stationed at a corner, we have also obstructed one of the paths in the hallway. Throughout the session, individuals not involved in the activity became a distraction as they started to converse at the nursing

Strong communications skills are vital in nursing. Communication is the base of a relationship between a nurse and a patient; it can be one of the most powerful tools used in the nursing field. “Socializing is an important initial component of interpersonal communication.” (Perry, Potter, Stockert, Hall, 2013, p. 315). A patient’s first impression is often made from social communication, and starts the moment they enter a care setting.…

Could Yoga Be The Answer is an article in which author Teresa Ann Power, a children's health and fitness specialist, explains how she believes the practice of yoga in children could be a solution for the obesity epidemic in America. In the article, Power explains the causes behind obesity, the effects of childhood obesity, and claims that yoga could be the answer to the problem of obesity. I believe Power excellently presents her point by correctly targeting her audience and appealing to the audience using the rhetorical strategies of logos and pathos. The article itself was published in the magazine USA Today by EBSCO Publishing. Teresa Power's intended audience can be assumed to be Americans with children by looking at the magazine it was published in, USA Today, and the subject matter, which is obesity in children in the United States.…

The Black Male Yoga Initiative (“BMYI”) is organized to educate, engage, and empower Black men in all communities. Our audience demographic is straightforward, we have a primary focus on training men of color, ages 16 to 65, as certified yoga teachers, however, we do not exclude members of any race, age, gender or ethnicity — we merely want men of color to be clear that holistic health care practice is for “us too.” While the outcome of becoming a yoga teacher also creates workforce development, in that each successful candidate becomes a registered yoga teacher with The Yoga Alliance, capable of teaching anywhere in the United States, an equally important application is that we help build more informed communities. BMYI collects data in collaboration with the communities and organizations we serve, to build successful programs that address present issues. The result is an alternate base of holistic knowledge, performance measures and assessments, which, ultimately help create policies to ameliorate gaps in health care and human services for…

The group I am currently considering is StuMo, which stands for Student Mobilization. Some of the reasons why I am interested in StuMo are that I am looking to grow spiritually, meet new people, develop leadership skills, and strengthen my character, while also having something to occupy my time here at the University. It is an interdenominational student group, whose mission statement is to raise up laborers for Christ from college campuses and mold these laborers to future leaders. StuMo is open to people of all religious affiliations and ethnic backgrounds. One of their goals is support and help students in any way along their spiritual development.…

This is uncivil behavior that needs to be changed in order to maintain a healthy work environment. This is described in Stopping the Culture of Workplace Incivility in Nursing when the author states, “Nurses will have to work together to ensure that communication between veteran nurses, new graduates or novice nurses, and other members of the healthcare team is collegial, respectful, and helpful” (Khadjehturian, 2012, p. 639). This illustrates how without the respect and civil behavior occurring throughout all members of the healthcare team, that proper patient care is unable to be performed. Although the actions of one individual seem to be…

While reading “Using Collaboration, Co-Teaching, and Question Answer Relationships to Enhance Content Area Literacy” by Nicole Fenty, I had a chance to learn about some strategies that can be used while co-teaching with a Special Education teachers and a general education teacher. Collaboration is the key to success in a general education setting where there are students who have an IEP because the teachers need to be on the same page of what the students need to learn while Co-Teaching. It is important that each teacher shares the responsibility of teaching the students. This sharing of responsibility allows for teachers to become more knowledgeable in their subjects which, allows them to teach the areas they know the best. Being knowledgeable…

According to legal scholars, the minority communities, and racialized groups have certain specific legal concerns. These include damaged esteem, violence and increased risk of prosecution. As such, they have higher anxiety and stress levels, and might easily be depressed or have suicidal thoughts. The role that culture plays cannot be underscored, particularly when it comes to influencing legal behaviors of racialized groups (Phillips, 2015). Culture directly shapes how these groups communicate and seek help, and it also influences their coping mechanisms.…
