I have donated time in my city, state, country and internationally. Through the many opportunities that I have had for community service, I have been able to broaden my views, and look outside my community at how others experience our world. I have visited very diverse communities ranging from the inner city of Detroit, MI to a small, economically depressed village in Honduras, to the mountains of Pennsylvania and inside homes very different from mine in my own…

First I would like to gain more leadership opportunities on campus. After transferring to Rutgers last Fall, I searched for opportunities to make a difference in my Rutgers community. I am not the type of person to start a new club to change the world or start a fundraiser to better something on campus; instead, my strengths are in my communication skills and personal experience. I am hoping that being a Scarlet Ambassador will be my opportunity to make an impact at Rutgers University. In addition, I hope to gain a larger network of friends in the Rutgers community.…

A veteran to me is a patriotic, unselfish, brave, and courageous person, who would sacrifice time from their families to serve and protect our nation. As Jeff Miller once said, “The willingness of America’s Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” Veterans from every country have served throughout many wars. They have put their blood, sweat, and effort into doing the right and beneficial thing for their nation. Being a veteran means not only to serve in the military, but it means to have the selflessness and courage to go off to war to ensure the freedom of the nation.…

Volunteering over the summers at a camp for children ages two through nine has opened me to an entire set of skills that reflect those a qualified NSHSS Ambassador should have. Working with children requires you to act as a role model. From a young age what children are exposed to influences their views on right and wrong and what they think of as the right way to act, this is why you must be vigilant in constantly working to inspire them to have desirable traits. Quick thinking is also a big part of working with kids, you must always be on your toes, ready to change gears for whatever comes next and willing to do anything to reign in their short attention spans. It’s a tough job…

Week without walls" Two years ago, no one would have imagined the transformation in my personality; from a timid and introvert teenager to an active young man striving to contribute to my community. My story started in tenth grade, when the school counselor recommended that I participate in the schools extended volunteer program under the "week without walls" initiative. The program, in hour school, was originally designed to provide the students with an opportunity to engage in experiential learning and participate in activity based programs. However, later on it evolved into an opportunity for willing students to focus on volunteer work.…
