Most people say that going to a big, well-known university is the best way toward success, but are they really? There are actually other options that can lead a graduating senior toward success such as community college. Not only is community college more affordable and close to home, but it can also offer the same opportunities as that a well known university. An example would be Lorain County Community College, offering four-year degrees and having more than a handful of other associate degrees for first-time students. LCCC, for example is a good place to begin college because of its central location, its small classes, and academic reputation.
Like most things location is key. When choosing a college it is important to keep in mind just how far away you want to be from home. The closer you are the more time and money you can save; in contrast to going to a bigger university, where you might encounter inconveniences such as heavy traffic and higher gas consumage. Many of the students who go to a university look down upon students who go to a community college. In the article “The Community College/‘Real College’ Divide” by Kristin O'Keefe, she explains how community college is looked down upon and argues that community colleges are as just as great as universities. O’Keefe writes, “they had heard the message that community college was not a real college, and they listened”. Even though O’Keefe didn’t get to experience the community college as a student, she has experienced it as a faculty member. I agree with the article because it true, just because community college is in front of the name it doesn’t make it any less than a university, typical community college students have different experiences than university students.…
