Community College Sports Management Internship

During this past spring, I did my Bucks County Community College Sport Management Internship at the Lower Bucks Family YMCA. According to the YMCA’s website in regards to their focus on youth development, states that,” At the Y, our sports staff, coaches and volunteers all share a singular vision of helping all youth reach their full potential in life. We leverage the excitement and passion around recreational and competitive programming to create a healthy outlet for children to gain new skills, develop a sense of team and connect with positive role model.” The overview of this unpaid (voluntariness) internship was for me to acquire knowledge and experience in this field when working. From the course of this internship, I oversaw numerous …show more content…
The reason why I took over full command was the other instructor had to leave to attend to his son’s baseball game. Although, the overall class was going as planned with two instructors prior (determinism), however, the remainder of the session definitely escalated rather quickly than expected. Nearing the end of class involved two other children in the class started to brawl (soft determinism) with one another. This situation was just shocking to me as I did not know what I was witnessing altogether. Usually, I don’t like to intervene with those kind of situations and just let kids handle their own problems, however, I could have taken action, but before asking for further assistance, a parent took action themselves to break the fight between both kids, therefore, bringing it to my attention …show more content…
This would have been the ideal situation because this is the correct procedure, however, since I was in charge of a large dodgeball class of 15-25 kids, I chose to wait until it was entirely necessary to become involved. If I used the deontological theory approach, I know it is my “duty” to still take matters into my own hands, since I became in charge, however, my action would have been to obtain further assistance before someone would become seriously injured or hurt. While I did not have the other instructor, however, it is still my duty as an employee, whether I am paid or not to follow all rules and be sure that all children play safely and respectfully with each other and treat each class like it was my own. Nevertheless, I can only learn from the situation and when I am in charge to not become suddenly afraid to speak up and take absolute control of the entire

MPH Competencies In the beginning I visualized opportunities for the YMCA such as: introducing new communication and education avenues such as Pinterest, taking a public health systems approach with Missouri State University to encourage use of Activetrax and the importance of nutrition, find realistic opportunities for the YMCA to enrich the nutrition education part of Activetrax with basic statistical methods, apply research principals to class count data, and develop public health interventions to evaluate Activetrax. These opportunities are mentioned as part of the expected MPH competencies for the internship plan and so they as well as three Discipline-Specific Competencies and three Interdisciplinary Core Competencies will be in the following…

As an athlete, I began my journey in sports full of dedication, fire, and hopeful anticipation of what I could do on the football field and on the basketball court. Much of my life has been devoted to extracurricular activities such as sports and the comelec, which taught me hard lessons in ethics and values that have made me who I am today. I not only represented my school varsity, but also sports clubs outside of school, which led me to compete in several local and international tournaments. As well as my passion for sports, I grew into my passion for service; service for others and for my school, partaking in clubs and community service activities, each endeavor playing a role in the development of my abilities and expansion of my potential…

Although there is a clearly stated disciplinary consequence for her action, the administrative staff conflict with enforcing that punishment. Mr. Furtoski, the principal, especially struggled with the decision because he did not want to supersede the teacher’s autonomy and rights to follow district mandated rules; which he helped to approve. At the same time, his moral consciousness played a role. He thought the punishment was unwarranted. In addition, Mr. Furtoski was concerned about jeopardizing Sheila’s honorable achievements and the renewed sense of pride it will bring to the school and community.…

A nonprofit organization is defined as an organization focused on a specific purpose other than making a profit. The nonprofit organization that I am reviewing is YMCA of Greater New York. The reason I selected this specific organization is because there is also a YMCA located in my home town. It aids in helping the youth and established programs for the betterment of the community. The mission statement of the YMCA Greater New York defines the purpose for creating the organization, how it plans to operate, and what individuals or groups it targets.…

While I was at my tour at the William George Agency, I have learned three new things that were related to juveniles. The first thing that I learned on the tour was that the juveniles there on the campus are allowed to participate in athletic sport competitions against other high schools around them, even one of the schools they compete against is a school that’s in my home town. The Impact of the lesson for me was that, knowing the kids from William George school were allowed to play in competitive games against other schools, it gave them a chance to have fun and explore in something new that could possibly grow on them as a new interest that could then pursue them on setting future goals, because I am a firm believer of sports being a gateway…

“Competition is a virtue and everybody is so busy competing, they have no time for compassion” (Major Owens). In today’s day and age kids do not have the time to play outside with their friends or play kickball with their neighbors. Instead, they are traveling and spending most of their nights practicing with their club teams. Youth sports have put a strain on kids to the point where the sport has become a job rather than a hobby or passion.…

Youth sports have been a very popular recreation in America. It allows kids to have the chance to play a sport at a young age. However, many of the kids only play a single sport, and the types of adults that either spectate or coach youth sports are mainly split into two opposing sides. One half helps the kids to succeed in the sport they are playing and let the kid choose if they want to play that sport, and the other half force the child to play a sport that they may not like and gravitate towards the child’s every mistake like a moth to a flame. This can cause many problems for the child and can often be overwhelming.…
