The institution has a Biological Sciences degree which allows me, as a soon to be graduate from Hagerstown Community College with an Associate’s in Biology, to pursue and finish the next level of post-secondary education, achieving a Bachelor’s degree. In addition to pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences, UMBC has many clubs and activities to be involved in which will allow me to create new friends and provide a way to network with other students that has the same goals as me. I strongly believe that at my local community college, most of the students and professors don’t share similar ideas and goals as me and was difficult to find and achieve things I want to do after college. Thus, my passion to learn has slump down a bit. I believe the students and professors at UMBC will assist me in refueling my passion in learning that I know I once had. I want to get back into learning with passion and UMBC will guide me to that road.

Being a first-generation college student, I understand the challenges that students of similar backgrounds face due to not having parents to lean on for academic support. Having received guidance from different programs regarding the transfer process, I used the knowledge I obtained to do something that gave three of my closest friends, who are from similar backgrounds and don’t have such resources, an experience that would ignite the same passion and desire that I have to succeed in college. This was accomplished during the summer of 2015 when I researched, planned, and carried out a trip to various UC, CSU, and private schools throughout northern and southern California. By visiting new universities and visiting academic departments, I hoped…

Deciding where I wanted to attend college and what I wanted out of my college experience was an immense amount of pressure placed on the shoulders of my then eighteen-year-old self. I would like to transfer because I am currently attending a two-year institution. Being enrolled in, and graduating from, a traditional four-year university will help me reach my goals more effectively than pursuing a two-year degree. Some goals I plan to attain are: to obtain a valuable education as a path to a fulfilling career; to further my personal development; and, moreover, to show children from different backgrounds that an education is always within their grasp. Achieving at least a four-year education is invaluable in gaining entry into a scientific career.…

I spent the fall semester of 2016 as a first-year student at Bucknell University. I found most of my classes, with the exception of one were easy, and I did not feel that I was being sufficiently challenged, academically or intellectually. Additionally, the school was too small and could not offer the opportunities and experiences, such as internships, jobs, community and volunteer work, that I desired. The area surrounding the school did not stimulate or excite me, in the way that a city would. I decided after only a semester, to withdraw from Bucknell and am at home for the spring semester.…

I have always been one for thinking big, dreaming big and achieving big. That's the reason I came to this country in the first place; away from my loving and caring parents, away from my little brother who needs me by his side and away from my home country, which I believe one day I'll be blessed to go back to and be the strong difference maker I've always dreamt of being. I love my current university, Augie(Augustana University). In soon to be one year of my stay here, Augie is the place I've made lots of friends from so many different countries; Augie is the place I got to learn so much more about life than I previously did and grow even more mature; Augie is the place where I repeatedly step outside of my comfort zone, which, while a bit…

I am particularly interested in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire due to all of the impressive things i've heard from my older brother who attended for 3 years before transferring due to major switches. All of the amazing opportunities Eau Claire gave him to succeed as well as determine what he wanted to pursue really have drawn me to attending this school. Furthermore, I hope to acquire the same great college experience he had while attending this school. Being that the city of Eau Claire is so similar to the town I grew up in and have come to love makes going to UW- Eau Claire that much more important to me. Coming from Neenah/Appleton area, which is roughly close in size to Eau Claire would make my transition into the school and area much easier which is an important aspect of Eau Claire that I admire.…

“Community college students who transfer to a university often times feel out of place because of the new environment at a university. This is because many of the students at a university have already been there for 1-2 years” (The Pros and Cons of Community Colleges). On the other hand, according to Weston Alt, “the transition from high school to community college is a lot easier” (Alt). Typically when attending a community college, there are people there you already know because you live in the same region.…
