Tulsa County is home to 622,409 people. Tulsa County includes Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Bixby, Jenks, Glenpool, Owasso, Collinsville, and Skiatook. I did research on Andersen Elementary, 1 of 13 elementary schools in the Union Public School District mostly located in Tulsa. Along with the 13 elementary schools, the district has one early childhood center, an alternative school, and five secondary schools. The Union Public School district is quite large, serving nearly 79,650 people and 14,658 students. I examined data about income, family makeup, ethnicity, mother factors, abuse and neglect claims for Andersen, Union Public Schools, and Tulsa County.

With the district having such a diverse range of ethnicities and the county having about 9.9% of migrant families, it is especially important to be sensitive to each individual child’s unique culture and family dynamic. It is likely that many students will not have immunizations or their immunizations will not be up to date. Morton Comprehensive Health Services provides quality, cost-effective and family-based health services with dignity and respect to all people without regard to finances, culture or lifestyle, and provides information and support to promote participation in health care decisions. Children who have been victims of abuse or neglect are predicted to be at high risk for not being ready for school. Many children who have suffered abuse or neglect become one of the 9.1% of Tulsa County children in foster care. These children need constant love, support, and understanding. The Parent Child Center of Tulsa is a program whose goal is strengthening families to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect through education, prevention, treatment and advocacy. Families who have been victims of abuse and neglect have a safe place to go where they can receive counseling and overall support. As a teacher, it is important to remain a constant for students in their life when so much around them is changing. School has to always been a safe place where they know they can go to be loved and where they can forget about their issues at
