When a government takes complete control of a country, we call this brainwashing. Officially, it is called communism. George Orwell's, "Animal Farm" is an example of the problems with communism. In this book, Mr Jones, Napoleon, and Boxer help demonstrate the theme of criticism of communism. First of all, communism plays a big part in Animal Farm. The original rebellion in the beginning of the novel is quite different from the ending result. In the first rebellion, animals despise humans. They refuse to sleep in beds, drink any alcohol, or wear any clothes. The humans are sworn enemies. The end results are quite different. The pigs (specifically Napoleon) have complete control over the animals, and the animals are to stupid to know any different. They are completely brainwashed, and don't realize that they are being deceived by their own kind. This is complete communism. …show more content…
Jones helps express this theme of criticism of communism. Mr. Jones was not a good farmer. In the book it states, "When Mr. Jones got back he immediately went to sleep on the drawing-room sofa with news of the world over his face, so that when evening came, the animals were still unfed." (Orwell 28) In this book, it describes that Mr. Jones was a decent farmer in his time, but turned "evil" when he got older. Mr. Jones is the whole reason the rebellion started. He is the cause of the rebellion itself. Without this character, there would be no reason to have a rebellion, and would make this novel less flowy relating to the theme. However, because we have Mr. Jones as a character, there has to been some element of the theme included. We then see (as I said above, that Napoleon has made times worse than Mr. Jones' time. The animals believe that it might be better, but in reality it is not at all; not even close. So we can see that as a result of Mr. Jones, the theme is still relevant. Without Mr. Jones and his actions, the theme would be different, thus making point, criticism of

Violence and Corruption of Leaders “They had come to a time when no one dared speak his mind, when fierce, growling dogs roamed everywhere, and when you had to watch your comrades torn to pieces after confessing to shocking crimes” (Orwell 87) This is the scene for George Orwell’s Animal Farm, where pigs take over governmental rule after driving out the tyrannical Mr. Jones.
