Children aged 0-3 mainly experience transitions such as starting nursery. Practitioners would normally observe the child at home. This way the practitioner can get an idea of the child’s interests, comfort items and routines. It is also good as the practitioner will able to see what developmental stage the child is currently at and if they may be any concerns when they start nursery. For example the child may have limited speech. Throughout observation, the practitioner will get an idea of how the child likes communicating with their parents. If the child’s first language is not English then they would have to come up with some communication strategies after discussing the case with the parents.
