Within our Read section of Unit Two I completed a survey assessing how I felt I rated in the area of thirty different skill sets. This survey is similar to other skill assessment test I have taken while a student at Bethel University. Though I had a good idea of what the outcome would be, I believe surveys like this are beneficial in getting a person to seriously consider what skill sets they are best or worst at., but I also believe it could be biased. I may feel my skill of planning is well developed, but when compared it to others it may seem to be lacking some.

Some of these skills are more important than others and some of these skills are more difficult to develop that others. Some come naturally and some of these skills must be worked on and practiced in order to reach an optimal level in mastering the skill. Many of these skills may vary depending upon the individual person and the journey their lives takes them, but for all of us, regardless of our journey, there is one important skill we must all continually work on mastering, communication. It was easy for me to get comfortable where I was at in my ability to communicate, but I quickly realized I was not where I needed to be. An area I will continue to work on first is speaking. I am guilty of of using the excuse that I write like I speaks (Bethel University, 2014). I am making a solid effort to reduce slang and to also increase the level of vocabulary I use. Another area I am working on that will increase my communication skills is reading. I love to read, but generally my books are not ones that would be considered scholarly. I am beginning to read a higher level of books that will assist in expanding my vocabulary (Bethel University, 2014).
Learning to speak at a higher scholarly level and learning to read material that is at a higher scholarly level will greatly improve my communication skills. Having communications skills better developed will lean to more scholarly written essays in school, better develop material in the workplace, and a higher level of communication with co-workers, leadership, and others within my career.
