Poor communication between an interprofessional healthcare team can cause misunderstandings and conflict within the group. Furthermore, limiting the person-centered care offered and impairing the patients’ needs, can result in serious physical and physiological injury which could have been avoided. This can be explored through the research of the (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organisation 2004), which “indicates communication (written and verbal) between colleagues and with health care consumers and/or family members is the primary issue in the majority of medication errors, adverse reaction, and near misses (Benjamin 2003). This research displays the effects of poor communication within an interprofessional healthcare team and evokes the importance of effective communication.
