Everyone needs to understand that communication is the process of sharing information, thoughts and feelings between people through speaking, writing or body language. Communication goes both ways, sending and receiving the messages. In most cases the coach have a more expressive skill than listening skill. The reality is coaches need to have the necessary skill to send a clear, understandable messages but also at listening to understand what athletes are communicating. The communication consists of verbal and nonverbal messages. “Non-verbal communication includes facial expressions, the tone and pitch of the voice, gestures displayed through body language (kinesics) and the physical distance between the communicators (proxemics)” (SkillsYouNeed, n.d.). Gestures of hostility, facial expressions of joy, movements of intimidation, and acts of kindness are all forms of nonverbal communication, which accounts for the majority of communication. Because coaches are often intently observed by athletes, administrators, and the public, they must be especially attuned to how their gestures, body positions, and facial expressions communicate (Martens, 2004). In my opinion everyone needs to work in farther his or her communications skills. For example, thinking about what to say, when to say it, how to say it. Must keep in mind the other person (s) point of view or understanding. This is a common phenomenon and it happens ever day, but it goes unnoticed. These are part of us been humans…
