Communication is a skill, a key to human connection and allowing humans unde4rstand what they feel and what they mean. However, “the most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t said.” – Peter Ducker. This quote is a perfect quote. It applies to children who have no idea how to communicate with words. Since birth, children start to learn how to communicate people in their own way. For example, crying has many different meanings; either they are hungry, sad, cold, tired, or have a dirty diaper. Communication is what allows us to understand each other. We have speech but children have their own way of communicating without speech.

How to prevent biting?
• Biting can be unintentional
• Don’t call it misbehaving,
• Punishing the child for misbehaving can to stress for the child
• Making other children easy targets for the “biter”
• Use the “Going Public” approach from the YWCA child care center in Minneapolis

This article helps as as educator and parents to understand the reasons of the toddles bite and some ideas and strategies how to respond appropriate.
• Observe the toddler, where, when, and in what circumstances biting arises.
• To watch in the biting signals.
• Try to be closer to the child if you feel the the child will bite.
• Encourage and teach the child to express his feeling by using simple words with an appropriate words and actions such as “I need more time,” Tell Andy that you don’t like when he gets that close to you.”
