“Communication is one of the first things we really learn in life. Funny thing is once we grow, up learn our words, and really start talking the harder it is to know what to say or how to ask for what we really need.” (Meredith Grey, Grey’s Anatomy). Communication is something we discuss and analyze throughout our whole lives. It is in the media, in our personal and professional lives, everywhere. Communication is about understanding the needs of others and clearly expressing the needs of yourself. People have a funny way of doing that sometimes; how we feel is not always clearly expressed in the way we act or the words we use. Using and picking up on body language is about interactions with people in our lives. It is said that “during an average 30-minute meeting, approximately 800 different …show more content…
It is important as babies and infants because without it we could not tell our parents what we need. It impacts us socially as we grow up, picking up on social cues helps us make friends and learn about relationships. Through high school and into adulthood we learn the workings of more intimate relationships. Being clear in our communication here is vital to have positive and lasting connections. Being a student body language is key for being receptive to new information and for sharing our ideas. This feeds into our professional lives in how we interact with our clients and coworkers. Open body posture is one of the first things you learn in a counseling class, because it helps to make the people around you feel more comfortable. Therefore more willing to share pertinent information. Most importantly in my mind body language is about being positive towards ourselves, if we start the chain of openness with our own bodies, imagine how easily it will flow into the other relationships in our lives. Body language is an amazing tool if used properly and we will spend our whole lives learning to use
