“The effectiveness of communication is not defined by the communication, but by the response.”- Milton Erickson. We speak to each other on a daily basis. Communication is how we communicate our emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Businesses use communication to delegate tasks to employees or let its employees know their expectations. They spend millions of dollars each year on trainings on how to effectively communicate. Businesses know the value of having proper leaders that can effectively communicate. Without proper communication the results of the words are useless. People have to know how to properly communicate with each other for their words to be effect. This is why so many businesses know the value of communication in the workplace. Communication is one of the key factors in running a successful business, without it a business would fail. “Communication skills are required in most occupations.” (Morreale, Osborn, Pearson, 2000, p. 2) It is how a person can establish successful job performance. Communication is the driving force that lets employees and manager know what is expected of them. The business has to communicate their expectations to the employees. If this is not done, the employees might set their own rules and not accomplish the tasks that the business would like for them to do.
