Have you ever wondered what it was like to be a true genius? Good Will Hunting is a movie about just that: a young boy who has experienced a less than satisfactory upbringing, but through reading informational books at a public library in his youth and through having a photographic memory that allows him to remember everything he reads has resulted in him becoming very intelligent. It is shown just how intelligent he is when he solves a proof that is written on a chalkboard at Harvard University, where he works as a janitor, that only two people in the world can solve. The professor who wrote the proof on the chalkboard discovers that it was Will Hunting who solved it and becomes intrigued by the boy and his intellect. This results in the professor taking the boy under his wing and, ultimately, changing his life. In the movie, …show more content…

Will is perceived to be a closed communicator, one that rarely discloses things about himself nor often seeks feedback from others. Will instead chooses to either keep information about his life to himself or lie about it, and he chooses to assume things about people he meets rather than talk to them and find out information about them. This is essential to understanding Will and how he communicates with people because this is his way of avoiding having to thing about his past of being abused and how he blames himself for it. This is a key concept to the movie’s purpose because, when Will’s therapist Sean finally gets Will to break down and accept himself, it is important to see what a blatant difference this is compared to the version of Will seen at the beginning of the movie. (Williams) Her style of writing may remind the audience of experiences they have faced and she criticizes a very common response to seeing upsetting images by dumbing down an emotional response to it is “uncool”. Her criticism makes the reader re-evaluate their reasons for not wanting to think about the environment because they realize now how irrational their response may seem. Her strategy can be hit-or-miss because not all readers may respond well to her confrontation and may become lost in her chain of thoughts. Though many communication concepts apply to these killers, the Johari Window allows us to connect the killers’ backgrounds and lives into their communication patterns or lack thereof. In order to analyze what the Johari Window model of communication means in Hickock and Smith’s lives, we first must have a complete grasp on the model. According to the University of Southern California, the Johari Window model is “…the disclosure/feedback model of self-awareness that can be used an information processing tool. It represents information, such as feelings, experience, views, attitudes, skills, intentions, motivations, etc., within or about a person in relation to themselves from four perspectives” (University of Southern California). In other words, the Johari Window is a communication model that allows one to look at four different communicable aspects of a person’s life and analyze the contents of each area to discern information about the person.…

John Hughes wrote and directed the cult-like movie which is set in the 1980s called the Breakfast Club. The movie is about high school students that all do something wrong during school and end up in a day-long Saturday detention with an extremely strict principal that has them work towards a single goal. Throughout the movie the interaction among the different characters is very interesting and eye opening about how people can learn to get along and to communicate, The diversity of the group, variations between and among people, is easy to recognize as it consists of Claire who is the popular school princess, Andrew the big school jock, John Bender the bad boy, Brian the brainiac, and Allison the school outcast and basket case. The group seems to be in culture shock, the psychological discomfort of adjusting to a new cultural situation, at the start of the day since the five students are pretty much strangers to each other.…

“Be yourself.” I have heard this phrase hundreds of times throughout my life. However, how can you ask someone to be their self if you do not explain to them what that truly means? Being true to who you are, or your identity, is not easy; it requires confidence and a sense of pride about who you are and who you want to be. Our identities are constantly changing based on the people we meet and the experiences we encounter.…

Williams, in writing this story, takes a very detached, objective approach to storytelling. The characters are understood as a result of their own words and behaviors (Newlin 149). There are no internal monologues, no moments of great character insight. Rather, the story unfolds as it would in front of a silent observer of the scene (Newlin 149).…
