In the movie 500 days of summer we see the communication concept of personal relationships between various characters that are in Tom’s life (main character). Personal relationships are voluntary commitment between individuals. Tom works at a greeting card company as a card writer. Tom looks content with his life, he has a few friends and very close with his sister. The movie moves forward and we are introduced to Summer, the boss’s new receptionist. Tom finds Summer attractive. But doesn’t say anything to her keeping himself in a role limited interaction. As they spend more and more time together, they become closer. Summer shares her intimate thoughts and stories with him, and Tom takes her to his favorite spot in the city. He tells her about how he was studying to become an architect before he ran out of money and was forced to work for the card company to make money. As they got to a IKEA store an play around as a married couple it is evident that Tom is in love with her. Summer realize that and tell Tom that she is not looking for anything serious. These scenes showed the honeymoon stages of their relationship or intensifying their relationship. By sharing their deepest feelings and hopes and aspirations showed the passion of what could be of their relationship. Tom’s feelings towards Summer was strong he clearly fell in love with her and wanted to be committed to her and invested in her a lot but the love he had for Summer was unrequited love. Rachel makes him explain what happened. He tell his sister and his friends what happened. He is in denial and he doesn't want to get over her, he wants her back. A couple days pass his depression worsens and begins to affect his work. The boss tell him he needs to get over it. Tom gets social support from his friends and sister but it doesn’t work. A month goes by Tom and Summer reconnect at a wedding they hang out all weekend reestablishing their friendship. Summer eventually invites him to her party he agree to go. As he arrives he sees that Summer is now engaged, and this is not just any regular party but an engagement party. This is the official grave dressing phase of his potential romantic relationship with her. Tom spends the next couple of days in a depressed state has time to self-reflect.
