Communication can mean writing, using the internet, and communicating in general. These three types are just the tip of the iceberg for communicating. Each serve a different purpose in our society. Communication is how we keep in touch with people, learn about new things/idea, and express ourselves. Even though communication is everywhere, we use it in our daily lives. Writing is a type of communication. You can express your voice when you write. You have a blank canvas to give your opinion and voice your concerns. For example, girls will write in their diaries. They retell about their day, what they experienced, their secrets, etc. Having a diary is an alternative to telling someone about your day. This is a girl 's way of having a voice …show more content…
They might not realize it, but Body language is a huge part of communication. Communication is usually done verbally, but body language is an example of non-verbal communication. “Gestures, movements, and even facial expressions are considered to be body language. Body language can tell you if someone is lying, being defensive, or their confidence level” (mindtools). To be able to identify these will help you in being able to relate to them or even talk to them better. You can tell if someone is lying by “little to no eye contact, rapid eye movements, breathing rate increases, complexion color changes, perspiration increases, and voice changes” (mindtools). This is helpful to many jobs that are trained to tell if someone is lying; police and nursing. Police use these methods on suspects. Nurses use these to see if their patient is telling the truth about what’s going on with them. If people are defensive, they usually have “minimal facial expressions, arms are crossed in front of their body, little eye contact, and hand/arm gestures are close to his/her body” (mindtools). Most people are able to tell if someone is defensive if they have their arms crossed. By knowing these signs, you can adjust on how you can talk to people or the way you’re talking to them. To be confident, you have to own yourself. Not letting anything get to you. Your standing with your head up high, smiling, and talking with no implications. …show more content…
You can talk with people on chat rooms, blogs, dating websites, skype, social media, etc. All of these examples can be used around the world. Anyone can literally talk to someone else half a world away. For example, if you have family in Australia, you can talk to them using any one of those examples. You can use Skype to facetime someone who you haven’t talked to in a while. If you’re looking for a significant other, you can use a dating website like eharmony or Match. Celebrities use online communication for everything. They want to keep their fans updated on what’s happening in their lives. A real life example would be when Khloe Kardashian was keeping people updated about Lamar Odom and his recovery. He was found “unconscious in Nevada and there was proof that he had drugs in his system. He partied for three days straight and had herbal supplements in his system ” (CNN). Even though Khloe and Lamar are getting a divorce, she stayed by his side until he was one hundred percent. She gave statements to E! News and even used Twitter to update people on how he was doing. By using online communication, people can relate to each other, which means you have something in common or experienced the same thing they have. For example, if you go to Rate My Professor, you can find students who’ve had the same teacher. The comments are usually all the same. They either agree with you or don’t. Another example

Overall, writing is one of the best ways of communication when compared to just talking to someone. When you talk to someone in a casual way, your words aren’t going to be as organized as a causal paper would be. But, there 's also a downside to writing a letter to someone compared to speaking to them, because, when you speak to someone, you show emotion through facial expressions and gestures; a paper cannot show emotion very well, which is why text messages can be easily…
