Communication Camp Reflection

When I first received a letter in the mail for communication camp, I was very skeptical about whether I wanted to go because no one else I knew had received a similar letter. After a lot of contemplation, I decided to take a chance and experience new things. Those three days changed my life. I want to become a communication camp leader because I want to open the eyes of students the same way my leader opened mine. Being a part of a diverse group of people taught me so much about the way I previously perceived not only my classmates but my teachers as well. None of this would have happened without the help of my senior leader. She emphasized the importance of individuality, nonjudgmental mindsets and the concept of safe space. Her tone and actions made us feel safe enough to tell our darkest secrets in the midst of strangers. After talking and listening to the stories, I came back from camp feeling like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Before communication camp, teachers were not people I talked to on a personal level. I would ask them questions about their day or speak to them about class. I never thought to …show more content…
I wish all students could take part in it. Coming from a strict Christian family, I was strongly against the concept of homosexuality and lesbianism but going to camp made me realize how lost those students felt in their own skin before realizing who they were, only to be ridiculed for it. I accepted the concept that people are people and their sexual orientation should not be the determining factor of friendship. After camp, I was more outspoken because I realized that my self-worth should not be based on the perception of others. Although not everyone goes to camp, the few who do, learn lessons that they share and utilize in their daily lives. I want to be a leader because I want to be the linchpin that helps someone the same way being in the blue group/ snap squad helped

350 word limits Essay Question - Other than your Eagle Scout leadership service project, what service have you provided to your community during your high school years? During my high school years, I have primarily provided service through my participation in the Christiana Care VolunTeen program and through the various clubs that I lead. The Christiana Care VolunTeen program allows young adults to help serve at the hospital in various areas, often exposing teenagers to how a hospital operates. Specifically, I worked in the Outpatient Pharmacy, SurgiCenter, and Pathology/Histology Lab, assisting patients and doctors with their various needs and tasks.…

If I were to be a section leader, I would be able to take on a challenge that few are willing to take on and be able to see the outcome of my leadership and how it affects the ensemble, which would be fulfilling. I would also be able to have the satisfaction of helping my section mates become the best marchers and people they can be in all ways I can. Best of all, I would be able to be someone people can easily approach with no judgement, which I feel everyone needs. Overall, being a section leader to me would be the most satisfying and enriching way for someone to be able to help the Marching Pioneers become better than…

In some ways, I have already shown three of these pillars in my first two years of high school. However, there are several other ways in which I plan to lead my school, serve my community, and build my character, during my final years of high school. Camp Widjiwagan (Rough Draft) Albus Dumbledore once said, “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” Often, when summer comes around, many kids begin to dream about summer camp. Some of those kids actually get to live those dreams like I did, at Camp Widjiwagan, this summer. It was one week of a Harry Potter themed, outdoors day camp.…

Certainly, we all understand that under the circumstances the Summer Session is not the typical Summer School. We made some significant changes to the program and recommended that students meet with their instructors on June 20th and 21st to be proactive in setting up times for struggling students. Significantly, Darius S. (Watch full names in e-mails) is in the lab every day plugging away at his course. He has been there from day one. Areas that I feel like I have improved in during this communications 101 course is becoming more confident in speaking in front of a small crowd, learning how to write speeches, and learning how to research and prepare for speeches. Everyone 's fear is public speaking. I avoided taking this class for the longest time just because I did not want to have to take a class where its entirety was just about speaking in front of people and doing a handful of speeches being my primary grade. I needed to take this class for when I transfer over to Arizona State University in the fall of 2017 so getting this class out of the way now at the University of Nevada was more of an ideal plan rather than taking it at ASU. This class is a core pre-requisite…

We had the opportunity to test out our group and teamwork skills, identify our individual shortcomings as well as our weaknesses as a group and work towards producing an outstanding piece of work. While working on the task, I took advantage of the opportunity to reflect upon my interpersonal and communication skills. M. Bambacas and M. Patrickson (2008, p.52) argue that “Interpersonal communication explains "the means" by which organisational activities, such as managing, controlling, planning, and leading are delivered”. This area of interpersonal communication has also been explored by Hunsaker and Alessandra (1986), who had identified four Interpersonal Styles underlain by the degree of responsiveness and assertiveness each one of them suggests. Having reflected on my involvement in the group work, I came to the conclusion that I use the Analytical Interpersonal Style, which is characterised by self-actualisation and security, cautious actions and decisions, low degree of responsiveness and assertiveness.…

When our project and due date was assigned and our topic settled, Mariah was the one group member I really worried for the most. Fo instance, being that we were the first group to present with a two-week time window, time was precious, and time was not something that Mariah possessed fully. With basketball season starting, Mariah was out for several meetings, so that made it a tad bit difficult to get her input on how she was going to present her subtopic. I will say, however, that Mariah was no freeloader—she was crafty by sending her ideas over text messaging and email prior to our meetings. In addition, when I was reviewing each person’s outline, I noticed Mariah made some edits to her paper well after midnight, so that told me how serious…
