Communication is a vital aspect of our everyday lives. People communicate in many different ways including gestures, attitudes, words, expressions and actions. “Everything that our organization does –and sometimes what we don’t do-sends a message” twins rivers unified school district. Whether formal or informal, every school communicates their needs, wants, and aspirations in a variety of ways through their leaders and teachers (Vicki Gunther, 2011).

In the Early Learning Center of Bayside Queens, students come from single parent homes, divorced homes, lesbian homes and two parent homes. The school addresses this need by having the teachers implement a unit about families, where students are taught about many different types of families. While the unit is being taught, the teacher invites different parents to talk about their family structure. WhatsApp groups, Instagram, logs and webpages are all forms of communication that parents enjoy. Parents love seeing pictures of their kids in school- pictures of what the class did and what the students are learning. It keeps parents updated on themes and topics students covered or will cover. Teachers also use these methods to ask parents to bring in resources they may need. For example, if the theme is musical instruments teachers can ask parents to bring in different recyclable objects for students to make their own instruments. This can also be a great opportunity for a teacher to ask for parent volunteers who play instruments to come to the class and play a few songs for the students. This is also fostering an opportunity for parents to build on, and ask questions about what their child is learning at school. Parents can also see how their child grew and progressed through the school year as they look back at all the pictures. In addition, it is a great way for parents to thank teachers for all their hard work as they post. (Although this is a great way to communicate teachers need to be careful to set their limits in the beginning of the year so that it is clear what these programs are intended for. Teachers should also make sure parents have access to these programs. If they don’t teachers should find an alternative for them.) This brings out type 4 in Epstein’s
