I have a love hate relationship with common sense gun law. As a person who admires firearms and their engineering I come from the gun community lot of the psychology behind gun owners seems that any government oversight they will not accept. The problem I see with common sense gun law is it's written by people who have no knowledge of guns. Video are posted all the time where policy makers embarrass themselves by showing they have no knowledge of guns whatsoever. This would involve documentation that could be sent to the ATF. To make matters easier, the ATF could make an easy system for private gun sellers without FFLs to send paperwork in, either through the mail or electronically. If we have to go through paperwork with FFL dealers why can’t we do so with private dealers. This would also keep track of who owns guns because it can be difficult to track firearms after they are bought through an FFL because of private sales. All of this involves increased funding of the ATF. Even when I write this what come to mind is a “War on Drugs” esque tactic, but increased funding will mean increased ability for the ATF to regulate guns and investigate illegal arms trading and their rings.This two front strategy could substantially reduce the access to guns by those who want to do wrong with them. Though there are still loopholes that are not addressed, it is a start. There will always be ways for criminals to access guns, but the ability lowers the amount of illegal firearms being sold on the streets along with increased regulation on how legal guns are traded, and who they are traded to be a strong way to update gun control.
