American Gender Roles

I decided to write my paper on gender roles due to the attention it is receiving from the general public today. While there has always been gender roles in the past and they have been challenged at times, today 's generations have greatly changed the way that the American society views gender roles. Being born in the early 1990 's, I grew up having traditional gender roles instilled in me. However, I have spent my young adult years surrounded by changing gender roles. The chance to study gender roles stood out to me as well, mostly due to the fact that society generally views gender roles as something that greatly applies to females. Therefore, the ever changing gender roles are something that may greatly impact my future, both at a personal and social level.
I believe the information I found while researching gender roles will help me function well as a member of America 's society. The culture today greatly differs from the culture I grew up in as a child, often changing again before I am grasp the cultural changes. Studying sociology semester has helped me to grow as a person in many different ways. We, as a society, often go many years being stuck in our old ways, therefore not being open to the changes happening around us. While we may not agree with the changes that are occurring, it is of great significance that we respect the actions, decisions, or choices that others may make for their lives. The American society is not generally regarded as one that is accepting of cultures that are different than their own, consequently the American people could greatly benefit from a general understanding of sociology.
