The purpose of this research project is to find out if common mental illnesses are prevalent in private school high school students living in my area and if these common mental illnesses have an effect on the school attendance of these students. My hypothesis is that these common mental illnesses do impact the attendance and increase absenteeism of high school students. In order to research this topic I made a survey and sent it out to high school students in my area aged 13 to19 who attend private schools near me. I tabulated and formulated results based on their responses to my survey.
Methodology
In order to research this topic I sent out a survey randomly selected private school high school students and received 76 responses. This survey asked a variety of questions with regard to the mental illnesses possibly experienced and the affect it had on their absenteeism for school. The common mental illnesses that I questioned the students on in the survey were anxiety, depression, sleep deprivation and obesity as explored in sources A to E. The survey asked if the students had experienced the following - anxiety, depression, sleep deprivation, obesity or none of the above mentioned. These common mental illnesses were chosen due to their apparent correlation with a decreases in performance at school.
I found that 49 of the 76 responders (64.5%) have experienced anxiety, 23 (30.3%) have experienced depression, 42 (55.3%) students claimed to have experienced sleep deprivation and 6 (7.9%) have experienced obesity. 14 students (18.4%) claimed to have not experienced any of these previous mentioned mental
