Common Heroes Research Paper

A man rushes to aid a little boy who is being bullied by other kids. A woman defends a friend from verbal abuse. A teenage girl talks an elderly man out of suicide. A boy pulls a cat out of his neighbor's tree. I see heroes that don't wear capes or fight super-villains. I see them live their lives while saving others from difficulties, harm, and even death. True heroes are good people first, famous last, and they do good unconditionally. My heroes leave every talent and gift they possess at the disposal of those in need. They answer the call of their fellow man, because of the love they feel for them. In their dealings they wish to never speak anything but the truth. In a concentrated effort involving strength, love, and truth to further a cause grander than oneself, a heroic deed is done. In order for a hero to be, he must have strength, compassion, and honesty. Heroes must be able to overcome challenges placed before them, and that requires strength. This virtue comes before courage, which is required only in the initiating of an action, and thus it is an accessory to a hero and not a virtue. Bravery is nothing if there is no power behind it. A human in their basic nature wants to be truthful, and a smart man will notice that life is simpler and kinder to the person who is honest. Dishonesty is often an act of a man who either is afraid of the truth or who dislikes it. Once a lie is told, it will spread faster than any truth. Sir Winston Churchill, in his own witticism, said, “A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on” (Churchill).
