In order for college students to succeed in college and beyond, the standards that have been established for kindergarten through grade twelve are very important to learn and achieve. “Standards have been designed to prepare all students for college and the workforce. The goal is to get every child on the same page in their schooling” (Standards for K-12 Engineering Education). The two areas that are being covered by the CCSS is english language arts (reading and writing) and mathematics. “Draft standards for K–12 English language arts and mathematics, developed by experts affiliated with Achieve, Inc., ACT, and the College Board, were released for public comment in spring 2010.”(Standards for K–12 Engineering Education). People that are supporters of Common Core would like it if strategies were expanded to widen the variety of education for the students. By widening the standards, parents realize and expect there will be an added amount of expectations at each grade level that the students must complete. “Place-based pedagogy, "world-class" standards-are they mutually exclusive? Or is it possible to balance the requirements of a curriculum focused on global economic competitiveness with educational values rooted in local commitments and practices?” (Gibbs 2).
