Eight percent of teachers say common core will be a negative outcome on students. 40% of the teachers are worried about the special education students and if they will be able to keep up with it and maintain the common core standards. According to Gallup, they asked public school teachers on their emotions of common core and it stated, “65% are worried and 62% are frustrated…27% are unconfident and 20% are unenthusiastic about it (Brown, 2014). Teachers who are lacking the support do not like the standards that have to be met under the common core. Going back to my interview with Mrs. Julie Stone, she brought up some good points on why she does not like common core. As a teacher, you have to do a lot of testing and preparing the students for this. When doing all of this, you can tell how this is affecting the student’s work. Some students at the elementary school age can barely write their name or recite the alphabet. When you put a test in front of them, this then causes them to freak out and even break down because they do not know where to start. Yes, teachers do practice tests with them and homework practice questions, but when the test is passed out, students may freak out and their stress anxiety can go through the roof. Statistics, interviews, and opinions have changed over the years. When common core first began, teachers hated incorporating this into the classroom. Now, teachers love having this available to them. Teachers believe that common core does help students in and out of the classroom. Even though it is not 100% of teachers who believe in this system, more of them do so that is why common core is still being used in the classroom. If common core was changed a bit to help the special education students more, teachers would support this more. But unfortunately, common core has not been able to establish this for all
