Virgin Islands have all adopted the CCSS in ELA/literacy and math, and according to the Common Core Standards web site they are also working on implementing the standards locally (Development Process Section). According to an article written by, Joyce VanTassel-Baska in January of 2015, the CCSS has become so politicized that both sides of the political spectrum have been building up arguments for and against the CCSS (VanTassel-Baska, 2015). Arguments for the benefits of the CCSS include, the CCSS providing a framework for higher level skill development, CCSS focuses on the use of instructional techniques that are more open-ended and higher level, the CCSS requires students to produce evidence of learning through products that emphasize the use of higher level skills, and both contractual agencies for assessment development, working across states, have devised and tested performance-based assessments that have many higher level exempla (VanTassel-Baska, 2015). U.S. schools fall short on certain subjects compared to other countries as far as a student’s knowledge or capability when it comes to the subject. Public schools and educators should ensure that all students graduate with the knowledge they need to make it in college and beyond. Making the changes to bring these standards into all public schools, schools can start making sure that a student is gaining a solid education from the beginning. CCSS in all schools would mean that teachers can provide their students with a stepping stone from each subject to the next, in order to make sure they are well prepared for each new grade or subject that comes along. If the CCSS is not implemented in all schools, students will not graduate with the tools necessary to succeed in college if they are not taught the most common and basic concepts in certain subjects. I believe that these recommendations are feasible for public schools and government funding, because if teachers are properly trained in how to teach the CCSS from the beginning, there will be no need to spend any extra to maintain the CCSS. I feel that if all states adopt the CCSS, we can truly be where we want to be in our
