4. The commodification of bodies is basically saying that bodies have a price. Commodification means to give price to something that does not typically have a value. So the commodification of bodies means that bodies should not be given a price. So when you give price to a body you are defining the worth of that body. One of the best ways that this has been seen is in the sex industry. The sex industry uses the appeal of a nature to be drawn to sexual objects. They do this typically through the clothing or really lack thereof on a given person. This is used all the time to sell products like cars and beer but it is also being used to sell people. She is given a sum to preform services. She typically can say yes or no to a sum but more than likely she takes whatever she can get so she can pay the bills. The woman then has to oblige the person who paid her, this could mean sex but sometimes it leads to a lot more than that and ends up getting the woman hurt. Another way that paying for bodies causes sexual violence is through rape. A man or a woman could believe that they have the right to have sex with a person just because they believe that they are worth more. This does not tend to be the normal reason for rape, but it still happens none the less. This tends to be the case in marital rape as well as in child rape. When an individual rapes a spouse they feel entitled that they have paid the price to have sex whenever they feel like it so it does not matter about consent. With the rape of a child this happens because the rapist tends to feel like they are worth more than the child and that it would not hurt the child. In both of these instances they are putting a price on the sex and ultimately the body that is providing the sex. To use commodification of bodies on the society adds a lot more misuse of sex and adds to the appeal that it is deserved by everyone no matter
