Commercial Music Concert Report

On April 1, 2016 I attended the Commercial Music Combo. The music combo was full with different type’s genre but mainly older music. This was great experience for me because it was something new, due to the fact that it was live performance with actually band. At first I thought it was going to be boring because, it usually these event don’t capture my attention. Professor Knight did an amazing job collaborating these groups to give an outstanding performance. To me this commercial music combo felt like an actually concert. There were two groups performing and each group played something different. The first group played one my favorite R and B song and the second group played some of my favorite pop songs. Both groups did an amazing job, the music portrayed a vivid image in my head. One of my vivid images was me singing live at the concert. Out of both groups, I would have to say that the second group was my favorite because I enjoyed and I knew the song that was played. They had me wanting to just get up and dance. …show more content…
When the first group played this song I was surprise that they even knew this song well enough for the lead singer to perform. The lead sing was male and it shock me because this a female a group usually females would sing this song. He did an amazing job rapping left eye’s verse. I have been listening to this since I was young and I still can’t rap that part. To see him do this, I know it took him a lot practice and time to do this part. I feel as if he came out of his comfort zone to perform an all-girl group song because you have to be into these song to perform it. In America you rarely see males performing female songs. Overall did an amazing performing TLC

On Friday, July 10th, the local instrumental jazz group Yuma Jazz Company played at Lutes Casino for a couple of hours. The instrumentation was fairly standard for a jazz group, with trumpet, saxophone, guitar, double bass, and drums (I believe those were electric). The guitar and bass, along with the drums, served as a sort of basso continuo, generally backing the horns, but occasionally taking up the melody for themselves, resulting in a texture that was thinly polyphonic. Also noticeable was the “fabulous light up tip jar,” a colorful accompaniment to their music. The concert ran from 7 to 9 PM, so I went in not only with the intention of listening to the group but also with a good meal in mind.…

ou might say they pulled out the stops at the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra concert on Friday. There were many engaging moments in the Cincinnati Symphony's unique program hailing the French organ tradition in Music Hall. But Louis Langrée’s direction of the famous “Poco adagio” in Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No. 3, “Organ,” was truly magical. At the Allen organ, Thierry Escaich’s tones provided a soft, rich carpet under the lustrous sounds of the Cincinnati strings. It was serene and moving, and Music Hall’s spacious, almost cathedral-like acoustics couldn’t have been more ideal.…

The UNL Symphonic Band concert, I Raise My Song To You, was on Tuesday, October 13. The first piece was the Overture to “Candide”. It was in a major mode and in triple meter. The piece started off with a quick paced forte dynamic with monophonic texture. In the beginning, brass instruments would play a melody and the percussion and woodwind instruments would play a melody in response.…

For my concert critique, I went to Jason Terry’s Doctoral Piano Recital on Tuesday, December 1st at the School of Music in room 206. Because Terry was able to pick the pieces he played, he picked a range of different pieces to emphasize his wide range of talent. He included older and modern pieces including Bach, Godowsky, Balakirev, Zorn, and Liszt. The first piece he played was “Prelude & Fugue, BWV 872” composed by Bach. I was a little unsure about the nature and form of this piece because it was unlike some of the more structured pieces we listen to in class.…

The piece had many sharp stops and well- emphasized notes. I was watching the performers closely and noticed that one music page went on for what seems to be forever because the entire piece was 30 minutes and there were only a few pages. On the evening of February 21, 2018, I attended a Jamey Aebersold live jazz concert featuring Howard Levy and Chris Siebol at the music building at UIC. Since, I had never been to a jazz concert prior to this one, I did not know what to expect, but since it was my first time, I was excited. In my opinion, the evening’s program was nicely presented. The musicians started by introducing themselves, Howard Levy, an American multi-instrumentalist who switched off with playing the harmonica and the piano and Chris Siebold who played the guitar and sang for a few songs. Due to that fact that they played all the songs together the texture of their songs were polyphonic.…

On October 1, 2016, I attended Tabernaculo de Dios Filadelphia (Spanish Pentecostal church) special service that can be considered a mini concert. This concert took place in a small church pastored by two elderlies named Angel & Esther Carrasquillo. Pastors Carasquillos are not only pastors but their first ministry back in Puerto Rico was music. They’ve been in the music ministry since they were 15 years old and they are now in their late seventies so they have quite the knowledge and experience in seeing the evolution of music through time.…
