It sets the setting in the winter when it’s snowing to signify death and despair. The story isn’t meant to entertain readers but make them understand the connection between the characters that the chaos that happens in people’s everyday lives in the real word. Each character can represent one of the seven deadly sins; Kenny represents greed because he wanted power and control which he has over the other two; Frank represents lust because although he has a wife already he also is having an affair with a 16 year old babysitter and is a womanizer; Tub represents gluttony because he loves food and is always eating no matter how much his wife tell him to go on a diet. For Tub he can be compared to everyday people because he always makes excuses for his weight “What am I supposed to do?” Tub said. “It’s my glands” (Wolff 88) by saying that it's his glands not his overeating is him trying to lie to himself like when people don’t want to admit the truth either to themselves or others around them they always come up with excuses to comfort themselves or the situation. This story is literary because it gets one to think not only about the characters thoughts and emotions
