Commentary On Those Shoes By Maribeth Boelts

Your book titled, Those Shoes written by Maribeth Boelts, seems very close to home for myself. As a young child, I was that kid that had to use ripped or on some cases stained clothes. So, I think that I wish I could have had someone do a kind think like that for me. With I have always tried to relay the message that we should be thankful for what we have. This tales me back to a situation, where one of my students was very upset with his mother she wanted this very expensive toy. She told him they couldn’t afford it, he wanted it so bad for his birthday. So, on his birthday he came to school the teachers had purchased the toy he wanted, his mother was always there to help in classroom, whether it was for cleaning the year, cutting paper,

I think the two essays that are most critical for students to read is “This I Believe” by Jennifer in New York and “This I Believe” by Elizabeth in California. They both have the same title and are similar at the same time. “This I Believe” by Jennifer talks about how people should treat others the way they would want to be treated. This is very important in life. You should never treat someone worse than you would expect them to treat you.…

Be the change you wish to see in the world; Mahatma Gandhi's words of wisdom still ring true to me in my everyday life. His words invoke me to look within myself and evaluate how my good deeds can somehow be powerful enough to change the world. Volunteering at Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls kindled a fire within me and made me realize that I will not tolerate being a bystander in the world; I must be proactive in order to see results. This center allowed me to see how simply packing, sorting, and shining shoes can help a young child's get to school easier, allow a young soccer play to sign up for their local team, or protect a child from walking on harsh terrain while trying to collect water. The reason why I volunteer is because I wish for the child's troubles to be nonexistent, I want to live in a world where people don’t have to worry about having a function pair of shoes.…

The obstacles that someone faces while standing to help others are unforgettable. As we have been exploring the ideas of faith and Christianity in class, we were called to look deeper into the meaning of Christianity through various self-designated books. Francine Rivers’ story, The Shoe Box, is centered around a child by the name of Timmy O’Neil and the raggedy brown box he carries by his side at all times. Francine Rivers mentions before the start of the story how she formulated this book based directly on her own experiences. The overall purpose of this book was to convey the message that Jesus is always with us through whatever we may be going through. Therefore, the main thesis of this specific story was to essentially leave all one’s worries and problems up to the Lord, which Rivers translates through the character of Timmy O’Niel.…

I still remember the aroma of food as I walked into Dunkin Donuts with my mom and brother on an icy winter night. After paying for food, I had a penny leftover. My mom became infuriated and yelled “You will find the penny or you will not go home!” As her and my brother waited in the warm car, I walked around in the freezing cold looking for a small penny that got lost in the taunting snow (Personification).…

And Still We Rise by Miles Corwin 1) In this book there was two teachers, Toni Little and Anita Moultrie. These two teachers had different styles of teaching their class. One way of teaching that really popped out at me was how Toni assigned an essay to the class to see the difference in writing of the student. This way she would be able to see which students were dedicated to school or which ones where just there to be there and not even pay attention.…
