The film "Gangs of New York" was based in the mid 19th century and it was in New York City. The movie is about a man "Amsterdam Vallon" known as "Leonardo DiCaprio" that returns to New York after he is released from prison. He comes back to seek revenge against his father's killer William Cutting known as "Bill the Butcher". William is a powerful gang leader that Amsterdam must take down to find a place for the Irish people in or around the 1860s. The movie was correct on some points of the history but most of it was not really accurate.
