The book Newtown by Matthew Lysiak tells the story of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. What happened on the day of December 14, 2012, in which so many lives were lost? The morning of December 14, 2012 started out like any other day. Families said goodbye then headed off to work or school. The only difference on that day was that another person left their house, with killing on the mind. Adam Lanza, age 20, left his house that morning equipped with a shotgun and 70 rounds, a rifle with 10 magazines carrying 30 rounds each, and pistols. It was 9:34 am when Adam pulled up to Sandy Hook. Upon arriving, he went to the front door and shot six bullets into the glass window next to the door to create a hole large enough for him to walk through. Adam Lanza turned left” (95). Adam walked past two classrooms before he went into Lauren Rousseau’s class. Lauren didn’t have keys to lock the door because she was filling in for Amanda D’Amato who was on maternity leave. Adam came in while Lauren was still trying to get all the kids into the bathroom. He then killed all but one girl who was already hiding in the bathroom. Inside of Victoria Soto’s classroom, she was trying to line the kids up in the back of the room out of view from the windows. After leaving Lauren’s classroom, Adam went back to Victoria Soto’s class and killed two adults and four children before his gun jammed. A brave boy named Jesse Lewis then shouted “Run!” Eight fellow classmates ran for it and made it out alive while two ran into the bathroom. Adam reloaded and killed Jesse by shooting him straight in the head. Finally, as Adam saw the red and blue flashing lights of the police cars, he turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger, ending the massacre. In five minutes, a total of 154 bullets had been fired, killing twenty children and six adults. Surely, December 14, 2012 was a tragic day where many lives were

There are many theories that go along with just one crime. As anyone can see the Sandy Hook shooting was a horrible tragedy, but there were few positive things that came out of it. It allowed criminologists to get a much better understanding on crime. This one incident shows that crime is a much more intricate process than just simply one person committing an act that goes against the social norm. Adam Lanza had a lot of things going on his life that led him to actually committing the crime.…

Simultaneously asserting that America has been a world leader in many areas, he argues that it has nonetheless failed miserably in protecting its own people from this type of violence due to the gun lobby’s manipulation of the American political system. Murphy proposes that mass slaughters, such as this, are a nearly uniquely American experience and that a change in gun regulation is the sole and long overdue answer to preventing more of the same. Murphy was a state congressman in Connecticut at the time that Adam Lanza shot and killed twenty-six people, including 20 children, at Sandy Hook Elementary School. As such, his experience during that atrocity, together with statistical evidence…

However, why do such tragic accidents still happen? President Obama is currently trying to make some changes for gun regulation, but was unsuccessful in doing so.…

I have a brother who suffers from mentally illness and I saw many of the traits of Adam Lanza, the Sandy Hook shooter, in my brother. He is one of the nicest people I know. However, with the condition he suffers from, he has extreme mood swings. He can go from the happiest person in the world, then become extremely mad and extremely violent out of nowhere, then once he calms down become very apologetic for what he had just done. There were a number of times that he threated to hurt himself, hurt us, and would physically come after us.…
