It was a beautiful Friday afternoon. The May weather was perfect, with a slight refreshing breeze. Excitement was in the air as we all prepared for the 23 hour drive to Colorado. This was going to be the trip of a life time for our family. This much awaited trip had everyone on the edge of their seats.…
Question 6 During my volunteer work at Cornerstone Ranch and Rescue, I learned that physics could be applied to any aspect of everyday life. This has helped me solidify my understanding of physics and eager to learn more. The realization of how physics is everywhere has sparked my interest to want to learn more physics in order to get a better understanding of how and why the world works the way it does. The property owner related many concepts of horseback riding and ranch work with physics-related ideas so that I could relate them to a science-based mindset.…

One unique, true thing about me is that I own 5 Newfoundlands. I’ve owned a total of 5 in my lifetime. A lot can be learned from owning Newfoundlands. One of them we own now, Hoosier, is the size of a horse! On 2 legs, he would be about 6 feet tall.…
I was born in Detroit and moved away before I had my brain was able to create memories. The only part of Detroit I knew was downtown. I’d go there for Tiger games, the Science Center, and the D.I.A. Before coming to U of D, I had the same stereotypical view of Detroit as most of United States. I thought of Detroit as being a city with a nice downtown but dangerous and rundown everywhere else. I was so wrong.…
As Benzie County evolves and grows the roots of the community stay. As our waterways have been used for shipping and logging over many generations they have also been used as a place of home, for salmon. In such a small place of the world such a large ecosystem full of beauty lies beneath the water where few get to experience its perplexing style. I am fortunate to grow up live in such a water driven environment where I can understand nature to the ability of a human.…
Once I first heard the title The Devils Arithmetic I figured it would be about demons and supernatural creatures. While I was reading the book it made me think about the movie I watched in my Facing history class the Boy In The Striped Pajamas. After I finish reading and watching the Devils Arithmetic I understood the Holocaust and how the Nazis were treating the Jews like slaves. The Devils Arithmetic actually referred to the book and the movie the Nazis were the devils, and the numbers the Nazis tattooed on the Jews were the Arithmetic.…
Growing up in Vail, I would often ride the chair lift with strangers and they would ask, “Where are you from?” I would reply “here.” The people I shared the chairlift with would tell me how lucky I was, but I would just smile politely and nod, unaware of my fortune. I had grown up in mountains and didn’t know anything different. As I have gotten older and been fortunate enough to have traveled outside of my familiar mountain range, I have realized how intensely beautiful mountains are.…

I saw only darkness, save the faint glow of lava rocks in a small hole dug in front of me. I breathe in what should be steaming hot air, but it is dry, yet so hot. Even growing up in Tucson where the summer heat can reach 110 degrees, I’ve never experienced something quite like this. I wished I was playing out in that summer heat, this felt like I was being cooked in an oven. I breathe in again, more dry air.…
I spent six of my summers growing up at an all girls camp called Wavus. Wavus is a wilderness tripping camp in Maine based out of my hometown, Jefferson. Living in Jefferson, I did not obtain a great deal of exposure to other people from the country, let alone other parts of the world. When I went to Wavus I was put in a cabin with girls from all over the United States and even one from Belgium. Having to live with these girls for a month each summer enabled me to become close friends with them and learn about their lives.…
I've lived in the Rio Grande Valley my whole life. Ever since I could remember, I had never been outside these valley roads. I had always dreamed about what a vacation would be like. I ustheir ed to have friends all the time tell me about their trips to San Antonio, Houston, and Florida , just to name a few. I came from a lower class family of five so a vacation was never an option for us.…
A time in my life that I would like to go back to is when my dad, my sister, our dog and, I went to Moab,Utah. I was 13 a couple days away from turning 14. It was about a 18 hour drive there. The trip lasted about a week. The week was full with so many things that we had almost no free time at all.…
The ride-a-long project took place on a Saturday the second day of July in the year 2016 by seven o’clock in the morning with the Harris county Sherriff officer, Ashley Rogers. It is a wonderful opportunity to participate in this tremendous project. I am honored as well as excited to be riding with this outstanding female officer who was interested in helping me not only on my project but also assisted me in choosing a better career in law enforcement. Days before the scheduled date, the officer took it upon herself to contact me first immediately she was assigned to ride with me. This police officer though she told me she loved her job and was professional, it is obvious by the way she carried herself while on the job and is always with…
