Graduation Speech: Greetings, Class Of 2023

Greetings, Class of 2023. Today, we get to celebrate the culmination of our thirteen years of hard work in school with graduation, and I have been asked to deliver this year’s commencement speech. I would like to thank all of the people that have brought us here: family members, teachers, principals, and people who would go out of their way to encourage us to keep trying hard even in the midst of failure. Without you, we would not be standing on this stage today. I would like to start by defining the word “commencement.” Oxford Dictionary says that commencement is “the beginning of something.” We as a class today will commence our lives past childhood, a beginning of something that will take us places in our lives, a beginning of something that is somehow more important to the world than our childhood. In the rest of the years of our lives, some of us will travel the world, start businesses, or save lives through the medical field. Others will teach students who will take our places, predict the weather, or be paid housekeepers for other people. Some of us first will be off to large colleges such as Pittsburgh, Penn State, Harvard, Duke, or Dartmouth; others will be off to smaller ones such as Nyack, Davidson, …show more content…

Our lives are something that we must shape ourselves, not something that we have for us. At any given point in our lives, we will have choices that we must make. They may be small ones, such as what to eat for dinner that night, or big ones such as deciding what job to pursue. But since there is no such thing as perfection, we cannot always know what lies ahead. Because of this, we may be known, or we may already have been known, as “super-smart,” “very shy,” or “very athletic.” We may even be known as multiple things in our

As graduation awaits beyond the corner, and all seniors are ready to move forward, I would like to take a moment to thank you for your guidance throughout this past academic year. Words can’t describe the extent to which I’ve grown as both a student and an individual science I obtained a DECA officer position last April. At the P.O.W, I still had yet the faintest idea of how to tie a tie, and I sat silently in my chair throughout the meeting. Gradually, things began to change come august. I still recall quit vividly the extensive struggles I had with my first order.…

I want to take this opportunity to sincerely and formally thank you for all you have done and made possible in helping me progress throughout my time here at SPC. My experience as a member of the Honors College has enhanced my life through the fellowship, better course environments, and the exceptional research conference opportunities and exposure that your leadership has provided. From a student’s standpoint ― especially an “unconventional” student such as myself ― you have given not only fresh and unique opportunities to myself and our membership, but you have given your heart and soul with the purpose of adding an advanced and totally positive learning environment. I know many Honors College alumni privately express this very same message to you ― but your total giving of time, energy, creativity, and true caring should receive far more formal acknowledgement.…

There are so many dimensions to counseling; guiding students with their academic path, creating an environment where they feel safe and supported, being a counselor and identifying risk factors. Beyond these dimensions however I believe the two most important characteristic when defining a counselor are adaptability and resilience. Academic counselors come across diverse populations and I believe there is no standard process when guiding students. The counselor should actively listen to the student and build a professional relationship in order to build trust. Equally important is the ability of the counselor to be resilient and to teach resilience.…

Graduation was a time to celebrate my achievements, to celebrate growing up and maturing into adulthood, to celebrate my friends and family that guided me along the way, and most importantly to celebrate one chapter coming to an end, and another one just beginning. The night before graduation I could hardly sleep as I knew that my high school career would soon be over. I got up that next morning, took a shower, put my makeup on, straightened my hair, and put my favorite black dress on, only this time I had my chords, cap, and gown to go with it.…
