Commemorative Speech

When I am up front in of an audience various things happen to me. My face starts to get hot and red really quick so then the room becomes very hot as well. Along with my hands start to get sweaty so that causes me to move my fingers around to make them not as sweaty. I like to shift my weight back and forth because it keeps me moving. Also when I am giving a speech I feel like I can only make eye contact with the person that is grading me and just glance at the audience here and there. Just giving our first speech with the Chinese fortune cookie, I was nervous right when I stepped up and right away I felt my face go red and the room get hot. I think it’s because I feel like I am going to embarrass myself or even mess up and I don’t want to do that because then I might get made fun of or not get a good grade. …show more content…
Notecards really help figure out what to say and do at certain points of the speech. The fortune cookie one was straight from the head and I couldn’t really right anything down so I remember what to say. When I got up there I forget what to say so I try to remember as quick as I can. Then I feel like everyone is just watching me and waiting for me to say something while I’m standing and trying to remember. So then I get flustered and start to get really hot. My sociology presentation I did was not that bad because I had notecards. Those notecards help guide my way through. They keep me organized and self-aware what I should say next. Then I don’t have to trail off and think of something. Also with my sociology presentation I had people in my group. So when they were saying something, it gave me time to look at the audience and see what is around me. Made me more comfortable to see

The results of my PRCA-24 were a little surprising but in a good way. I got an 84 which was much higher than I thought it was going to be which I guess reflects on the fact that maybe I don 't give myself as much credit as I should when thinking about my public speaking ability. One of the things the test made me realize is that i’m more nervous in regular life than I am nervous when public speaking, because I thought about the questions if they referred to the circumstances of everyday life. I guess that’s the benefit and downside to being a performer. Watching the video was a little bit strange for me because I’m always perceiving myself differently when I’m up there, which is partly a perspective switch but also sometimes it’s also focusing…

Before I begin this essay I would like to thank Dr. Glenn Brasher, a history professor here at the Capstone, for increasing my knowledge and allowing me to develop more perceptions about life. This acknowledgment to Dr. Brasher is very crucial; because it will help you understand how my inspiration has allowed me to persevere in life. Even though this year has just begun, 2017 has been one of the most eventful and unyielding years since I was in Kindergarten watching the Twin Towers collapse. In 2001, that event created a hole in our nation’s economy, enforced new policies that weren’t fair to all American citizens, and it even led to distrust in our county. As this year slowly unfolds it is revealing how those same affects are taking a…

This speech was a very different experience than all the rest of the speeches. The other speeches required you to give statistics and was more of an educational speech. The Commemorative speech let me as the speaker make the speech more personal and more inspirational. The Commemorative speech was one of my favorite speeches to do because I could really try to inspire the audience just how the person I was talking about inspired me. The Commemorative speech was also a lot easier to present then the other speeches because I could elaborate more about how this person influenced my life.…

Twenty-seven years ago today John Lennon's life was taken from him in front of his New York City apartment with his wife Yoko by his side. Like millions of others, I remember to this day exactly where I was when I heard the news (in my case, in the cold, dark parking lot of Mt. Hood Community College following a late night jazz rehearsal on campus). We were all shocked. Stunned. Deeply saddened.…

Curing Phobias Standing in front of the classroom, I unexpectedly experienced a change. My face began to blush, and my hands began to uncontrollably shake. After concluding the presentation and sitting back down, I felt embarrassment weigh down on me.…

Practice makes perfect as everyone has heard this saying before. In the future, I plan on practicing my speeches more by speaking in front of a mirror over and over again to give myself the impression of what I look like when speaking in front of a group of people. Practicing in front of a mirror over and over again will also help me memorize my speech more instead of relying on my note card as often, giving me more confidence while speaking. I tend to use my note card as a comforting thing when I get nervous and forget what I am about to say. It gives me the chance to collect my thoughts and remember what I was going to say as well as staying on track of where I was going in my speech.…

    Anxiety Speeches

Throughout school I have delivered speeches in front of the class; over the years I have noticed that I get quite nervous, and have a few tendencies as a result. Sometimes I find it difficult to give eye contact, as seeing their eyes on me often increases my anxiety. In order to relieve some of the anxiety, I tend to fidget. I might fidget with my feet, rocking them to their sides, or just move them around. I will also mess with my hands, and rub my fingers together.…

The first time I noticed this is at 0:09 in my speech. I think that if I were to stand up and be confident while delivering my speech it would make my performance a lot better. Last but not least I noticed my enthusiasm level almost seemed sarcastic in the very beginning of my speech. At 0:03 in my speech when I was stating my purpose statement, my tone in voice was strange and not exactly as enthusiastic as I could have been. I feel that if I practiced my speech a little more than I actually did, my delivery process would have been much…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

Although I feel that I did an adequate job on the group project one of the most important skills that I desperately need to improve on is learning to present in front of an audience. We had two assignments this semester that revolved around speaking in front of our class, the first being a speech by ourselves and the second being the group presentation. I am a cheerleader, so being in front of crowds does not bother me but what makes me the most nervous is when I have to speak in front of others by reading something I have written or completed. In the group presentation I was not as nervous since I was not alone in speaking to the class, but on the speech I did I was overcome with anxiety. Being able to talk in front of others is my biggest setback, but I am certain that with enough practice, patience, and preparation I will be able to calmly give a speech over any subject that I am required to do.…

I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…
