The Reyn Spooner 2016 Summer Commemorative Shirt

What better way to celebrate the great state that is Hawaii than with a shirt depicting those things that set it apart as a state. Granted, there isn 't room enough on one shirt to put everything that makes Hawaii such a tropical wonderland, however, the many elements of Hawaiian statehood are clearly represented in this limited edition Reyn Spooner print by Dietrich Varez design.

The flag would now have 50 stars in staggered rows of five and six stars each. This new flag officially represented the United States on July 4, 1960.

The Hawaiian flag dates back to 1845. It features the Union Jack of the United Kingdom and the horizontal stripes of the United States. The stripes also vary in colors to represent the eight main islands of Hawaii: Hawaii, Kahoolawe, Kauai, Lanai, Maui, Molokai, Niihau, and Oahu.

Instead of the traditional webbed feet of a goose, the nene has abbreviated webs with claws that help it hold onto the islands ' many lava stones. The birds were hunted for sport and nearly wiped out. They became a protected species in 1949, but are still an endangered species to this day. In 1957, the nene, or Hawaiian goose, was declared to be the official state bird.

Coral Reefs

Hawaii is surrounded by tens of millions of acres of coral reef. In fact, the Northwestern Hawaiian Island Coral Reef Ecosystem Reserve has over 84 million acres of protected reef. The reserve is larger than every other national reserve in America combined. Hawaii 's reefs have over 7,000 species of marine plants and animals. A full quarter of these species are not found anywhere else on earth.

These reefs are responsible for making many of the things that make Hawaii a traveler 's and adventure 's paradise possible. The reef 's ecosystem creates a habitat for the fish and other marine life that make Hawaii a seafood lover 's dream. The reefs also block giant waves from destroying the state 's world-class beaches. In other places, the reefs channel and shape the waves into those sought by surfers and other wave enthusiasts the world over. This does not even address the great beauty the reefs share with snorkelers and divers each and every
