One of the most famous leaders from the Apache tribe is Geronimo. After the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the Anglo-Americans set limits on where the Apaches could live. The Kansas City Athenaeum was founded in 1894, when several residents of the growing town came together to form a literary group, and also pursued philanthropic activities that would benefit the community and address other civic causes of the city. For my final week at the Truman Presidential Library and Museum I spent the majority of my time scanning more Lincoln Coins like I mentioned during my last reflections. I completed scanning and TMS Re-Entrying two more boxes that contained approximately fifty to seventy-five coins a piece. Needless to say, the Museum has a lot of these coins. When I left on Thursday, there were still six more boxes that no one had begun scanning. As a personal highlight of the internship, on Tuesday, I was able to oil an authentic 13th-century Japanese wakizashi (Samurai short sword) that was crafted by the legendary Japanese swordsman Masamune.…
For my first journal, I choose “Hercules Upholding the Heavens” by artist Paul Manship. It is located in the sculpture courts in the fine arts museum of Houston. What initially attracted me to this piece of art was the sense of power it radiated. Growing up, Hercules has been one of my favorite Disney movies; so having the chance to see one of my biggest fascinations come to life before my eyes obviously sparked something in me. Going through my memories of St. Mary’s is a large task. My first memory is of the first day of preschool. The written task for The Things They Carried has the form of a tabloid cover. A big part of the book is O’brien repeatedly trying to explain to both the reader and himself that memories cannot always be trusted, but ultimately through storytelling he can save himself and possibly his memories. Therefore the tabloid paper itself will talk about methods soldiers often use to deal (like storytelling) when they come back from war, and include enticing details from an interview with the author. The Devil has been portrayed in thousands of stories, shows and movies. How this character appears varies from story to story. Some show the Devil as a red man with horns, others as a normal person. “Young Goodman Brown”, which portrays the Devil as the later, is about how everyone is sinful, while “The Man in the Black Suit”, which portrays the Devil as more of the former, is about how the Devil comes for us all. While both “Young Goodman Brown” and “The Man in the Black Suit” show the danger of Devil like figures, they both have different risks involved, demonstrating that stories with similar antagonists can still have very different themes.…
