Commandment In My Utopian Society

Decent Essays
In my utopian society each commandment corresponds with an aspect of life.

My First commandment States that genetics will be altered in newborns to pick and choose the traits we want. I would do this because it could create for a better functioning society with less worries about what you will end up as because you are created for one reason. This is also necessary because if we have the ability to make people the best they can be why shouldn't we. We are able to make someone the greatest athlete or smartest person. Why don’t we? My utopian society will include everyone being the absolute best genetics can make them. My second commandment is that Friday is a free day to have with your friends and family to interact. Having school five days a week is stressful and I would like people to be able to hang out with their family. Many times kids are stressed about school and spend a lot of time in their rooms doing homework. I would like to have family time so that they can connect and do activities together. Teens also get moody so if they have to spend time with their family they might be a little happier and more open to talking or hanging with family.

I say this because I feel no one is perfect. Everyone has something to talk about and having someone you trust to talk about it is very helpful. I believe being able to get things off your chest will make you happier and less anxious. My fourth commandment is that there will be no religion. Religion causes many problems in our society between countries and I feel that these could be avoided if we take out religion. I also people have the freedom of choice and religions outlaw certain things which I don't agree

In contrast to Walter Glannon’s view that gene enhancement is morally objectionable, genetic enhancement, for the purposes of attaining a competitive advantage through increased potential in intelligence, athleticism, or attractiveness, etc. should not be viewed as morally illegitimate, because the consequences and intentions of gene enhancement can be morally justified through John Stuart Mill’s Principle of Utility and Emmanuel Kant’s Categorical Imperative. Walter Glannon argues four reasons as to why gene enhancement is “morally permissible if it is intended to ensure or restore normal functions, but is morally illegitimate if it is aimed at enhancing functions beyond normal.” However, gene enhancement is a simply one form of genetic alternation.…

The Mandate of Heaven was a Chinese government system that ended in 1912 C.E. that was centered around the belief that Heaven gave someone the right to rule (or mandate). In the Mandate of Heaven, a dynasty could be thrown out of rule using violence if they were considered to be a bad ruler; in order to be a bad ruler a series of bad events like natural disasters, invaders attacking, peasants revolting, and/or countryside raids by bandits. What separated the Mandate of Heaven from other government systems from that time was the rule that social class did not affect who could and could not rule. As long as someone had enough people supporting them to overthrow the king, then they could rule. Also, the Mandate of Heaven allowed people to rule…

Individuality is the greatest threat to a utopian society, if one person doesn’t like the way the leader is running the show, then why should you continue to follow their lead? This is the problem I tackled in my final project, as I produced a seminar that was telling students from a fictional institution how to run their utopian societies in a way where they could eliminate or control individuality. Of course their are many different ways to see a utopian society, sometimes it is optimistic, Where To Invade Next (2015) while others are much darker, 1984 (1984). I quickly decided to ignore the optimistic utopian societies, since many times the citizens are the rulers. Instead I focused on the utopian societies that were completely controlling…

It is my opinion that posting the Ten Commandments in public places is in the least, inconsiderate to those who are not Christian and does in fact violate the First Amendment. The First Amendment explicitly allows for the freedom of speech, but also for ones religious beliefs to not be impeded. It is my belief that confusion lies in the fact that one has the ability to believe and follow and religion they choose, but by forcing another person to abide by your religious beliefs, you are interfering with the foundation of the First Amendment. The Ten Commandments are, in general, a list of rules that Christians believe God himself created and handed to Moses, so he could spread the will of the Lord. As the question stated, those who are in…
