That one particular morning, the sun shined incredibly bright and the sky was clear of clouds. There was the slightest breeze that made the extreme heat just a little bit more tolerable. All the commander and lieutenants and the people that worked for them were gathered in the commons of the Rock Island Arsenal that my father was about to take command of. My dad was dressed in his white dress uniform that displayed all his medals and ribbons on the left side of his chest. The dress I wore had yellow flowers scattered around and my hair was curled against my liking. The current commander was on the stage and shuffling around papers on the podium. I had smiled to myself as he started speaking about his career as the commander of the Arsenal …show more content…
But it is now time for me to step down. I am giving this title as commander and to LCD Jack O’Neill. He is a humble man with a great family. He is hardworking and driven to do whatever it takes for this unit of men and women to be successful. Please welcome your new commander, Jack O’Neill,” he spoke with a large smile.
Everyone in the room started clapping. Bashfully, my brother and I followed behind my mom and dad, nervous about being in front of the large crowd. The commander exited the stage but not before shaking my dad’s hand. We also shook the commander’s hand before sitting in the foldable chairs behind the podium. He approached the podium before looking up into the large room and launching into his speech.
“Thank you, Commander Tony. And thank you all for being here today to celebrate this change in leadership. I am so grateful for this opportunity and am honored that you would like me to be your commander. I promise that I will try my very best, each and everyday and I will try to better this place of work for the better,” he declared with confidence.
