Lieutenant Commander Arnold Cortez is a native of Manila, Philippines and immigrated to the United States in 1995. He entered the Navy in June 1996 and was assigned to VFA-82 homeport in NAS Cecil Field, FL as an undesignated Airman and deployed with CVW-1 and USS George Washington Battle Group. He was designated as Aviation Support (AS) Equipment Technician and later transferred to Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department onboard NAS Jacksonville, FL.
While assigned to 900 Division at AIMD Jacksonville he served as AS technician responsible in performing periodic maintenance on various aviation support equipment to flight line troubleshooter, and as an Issue and Receipt Petty Officer. After his short tour at AIMD Jacksonville he attended the Support Equipment Gas Turbine Mechanic “C” School and transferred to AIMD Sigonella Italy in September 2001. In addition to his duties as support equipment technician he was directly responsible for the safe transfer, receipt and shipment of SE IMRL assets to four AIMD permanent detachments and 25 different detachments …show more content…
He was selected as the 2011 Pacific Hawkeye Maintainer of the Year. After his tour with VAW-115 he transferred to AIMD Misawa which he served as the MMCO and Assistant Officer in Charge from 2012-2014.
He is currently serving as the P-8A Poseidon Fleet Intro Team Maintenance Officer onboard NAS Jacksonville. His primary responsibility is overseeing maintenance training and progress of Fleet VP Squadrons transitioning to P-8A.
