Coming to college has taught me so many things. Some of my classes this semester has taught me more than other classes. Looking back at the beginning of the school year to now, I have such a different mindset. This semester went by so fast and I have learned so many things about myself and about how I learn and what works best for me. I am not going to lie, but University Studies has taught me a lot this semester and a great helper to transition into college. Before coming to college, I was really nervous and felt not prepared for college. I thought to myself that I was not smart enough to go to college. I thought everyone here would look down at me for not being smart enough. One of the things I learned about myself this semester was that I am smart in my own way. I am definitely not the smartest, but I am okay with that and I try my hardest at school and that is all that matters. I remember when classes started in August that I wanted to drop out of Dr. Novy’s class because I did not understand a word he was saying that first class and everyone in my class seemed to understand. I felt behind and felt that I would fail his class. As I transitioned into college more I got a better understanding of how to understand Dr. Novy’s class and felt I did belong there to grow …show more content…
At this point in college I am worried that what I am doing is wrong. I really want to grow up and be a vet, but I feel as if I am not smart or strong enough to push myself to succeed in the sciences classes. I feel that I am not smart enough because of my Chemistry class because I did struggle in it this semester and I feel that is a representation that science is not the route to go. It was hard to write everything out, writing the classes I would take over the next 4 years, if I I did pursue the Biology major. Becoming a vet is not going to be easy but as of right now I am still going to pursue that future and work hard towards

My freshman year at University High School Irvine, I realized school was no longer something I could get by without studying. I was enrolled in Honors Geometry, and for the first time in my life, I was struggling in a math class. I endured a C+ the first semester and I felt terrible. My mom hired a tutor feeling bad she could not help me, but I refused help from the tutor because I wanted to prove that I could pass this class on my own. It turns out I was unable to adapt to UNI due to my fixed mindset.…

I started attending Lone star college right after high school, at first, I began with the typical high school graduate state of mind, which was that college was going to be a breeze and that it would all be fun and games; more worried about what was going on in my social life rather than studying the books. Especially since I had no real responsibilities to handle or much life experience. Around my first year of college, I started dating this girl and not long after we conceived our first son. Once this happened, my focus slowly shifted from school to working a full-time job at a welding shop in order to provide for my family. I still tried to attend class but was unable to find the balance between work, school and family and this reflected my grades.…

Category #1, graduate high school: The objective is fairly simple, pass all classes and then a high schooler receives his or her diploma. The way that society works within high schools is much different than the objective. The specific process that administrators require students to do in high school are much more than of what many high schoolers can handle. Administrators require unnecessary information for students to learn which causes stress, headaches, and sleepless nights. The side effects of all of the unnecessary knowledge results in health complications.…

College Writing And Reading For The Incoming Freshman The transition between High School and University writing can be challenging to the ill-prepared student. In high school we might have gotten great feedback from teachers about our work: “great job”, “very good” etc, but in college our professors might comment differently most likely because they are searching for something different in college writing. Most often because professors expect a different style of writing than that of a high school class, such as a more developed opinion on the subject rather than a summary of what you researched. The most significant differences are visible in structure, research, argument, and format. In college writing, we move away from the standard…

I’ve always been a firm believer that college is what you make out of it. Me being 18 and just starting college I finally see how the world really is, it’s as if a cup of hot water had been thrown in my direction randomly, in other words I wasn’t ready. High school was a cake walk for everyone including myself simply because there wasn’t a huge amount of money over your head after you got your diploma. Just the thought of having a debt makes me cringe and it pushes me to use the time and the opportunity I have much smarter. College is one big investment in yourself and it makes me believe that I can accomplish more than I thought I could just a few months ago.…

I am a first generation college student so I had little prior knowledge of what college classes entailed. I had done very well in high school without the support of my parents and high school was also very easy for me so coming to college I overestimated what I could handle. After doing well my first quarter I decided to take on more responsibility. My financial crisis had unfortunately worsened during my first quarter so I decided to get a job and work everyday. I also took harder classes and joined the executive board of my sorority.…

Many people come into college feeling unprepared, nervous, and unconfident, and while being convinced that I was indeed prepared, I couldn’t help but feel some of these stressful emotions. Over the past month and a half, I have adapted to my new environment that is Pacific Lutheran University (PLU), and feel much more sure of myself as I continue through this semester. I have learned about what skills and mindsets can lead to a successful college experience, such as hope, grit, and resilience. I have also been able to reflect on myself as a person, and identify strengths, values, and abilities I possess that I can use to my advantage. Finally, I have learned about different resources I have surrounding me, and different aspects of PLU that…

Future. That’s probably one of the scariest words I know. The future is unpredictable, it’s often wrapped in wrapping paper, ready to be opened and it can both be exciting and disappointing. While I was in Elementary, I dreamed of being a chef, a cop, a fashion designer, a softball player, a singer, and an actor. As soon as I was in middle school, I wanted to be one thing, a singer, I had decided that I liked singing enough for it to be a career, although my vocal range disagreed.…
