Coming Of Age Quotes

Everyone has lost their innocence at some point. Every child has to grow up to become an adult, right? Is this not the definition of coming of age? The definition of coming of age is when someone transformers into a better person. People takes steps in order to come of age. In the poem, “The Road Not Taken,” the short story, “The Reunion, and the novel, The Summer I Turned Pretty the authors show how characters come of age psychologically and emotionally when their own actions and decisions force them to transform.

He was meeting his father after three years of his parents being divorced. He was also glad to see his father. The character thought, “he was a big, good-looking man, and I was terribly happy to see him again.” The main character was glee to see his father again after some years. The quote relates because he did not see his father for a long time and so when he saw his father, his father was good-looking and was glad to him again. He had expected him to be handsome. During their date, his father was drunk and disrespectful to the waiters, and being mean to bartenders. After their reunion, the main character exchanged goodbyes and never saw his father again. “‘Goodbye, Daddy,’ I said and I went down the stairs and got my train, and that was the last time I saw my father.” After he got onto the train, he never saw his father again after the reunion. This revolve around the claim because he finds out about his father’s poor actions was not was he expecting. The author suggests that expectations do not always come true. The author develops coming of age by comparing the expectations to his dad to the reality of his terrible actions. One last way that comes of age is when a character discovers an emotional
