Coming of age is normally a slow process,which there are others that never come of age in Bobby's case it was quickly instead of slowly. Coming of age for him in this story is difficult for him. He thinks that he can still do what he used to when he did not have a child.

The red balloon symbolized the story and the meaning of Bobby and Nia's coming of age.
The red balloon has a deeper meaning than just a nice girl sitting on the stairs waiting for her boyfriend on his 16th birthday. It's explaining that there's a big event about to occur in the book, an you want to keep reading to find out. The meaning of the balloon is that since it's red, its going to be a girl

As he puts four cans in his backpack and get on the bus and rides all the way to a place where he got off,and there it was a blank brick wall that needed some decorating done to it.So he unzips his backpack and starts spraying all his emotion on the wall using the colors that he feels from Black to red then blue to purple and finally green as he slowly falling apart,drifting away trying to find the light at the end of the tunnel.Thinking back at all the memories like when Bobby went to Jamaica with his brother that doesn't ever come around anymore.Or when him and k-boy flew kits with friends.Bobby cries, trying not to get spray paint in his eyes,almost done and he gets the biggest shocker of all the cops came and arrested him. As all of it comes to a crumbling stop as he realized that once he gets put in that cop car he will have to be a man and come of age and face the affiance.Bobby will have to relies that he is going to come of age but he doesn't know that yet.Throughout the story bobby encounters many events and they make symbol out of those events some of theses events are the red balloon,basketball chapter,and the hall pass.I don't think Bobby changed or grew up much in this story yes he did have a kid and he had to take up some responsibility but I don't think he fully grew up or
