Could you describe this moment? My Dad Joel did. Coming of age, what does that mean? In this instance it means a moment in our life that changes our view of the world and leads to greater maturity and selflessness. I chose to interview my Dad, Joel, and as I explained the topic to him he already had stories to tell me. First, he told me his coming of age was meeting my mom. My mom had just turned 19 and he took her to Canada for her birthday. After that trip they found out that my mom was pregnant. About 9 months later he turned 23. 16 days after his birthday, January 9th, 2003 a beautiful little girl was born. ME! Not only did he have to think less about himself, but more for his girlfriend (my mom) and me. He had to think of the future with my mom and I as a family, through the ups and downs, financially and emotionally.

He couldn’t party as much, he needed a better job that paid him well, he needed to become more stable and grow up. Now that he had a family to look after, he could no longer come and go as he pleased. He had to help my mom throughout her pregnancy, and still today he stands by her side parenting. He wasn’t alone.
