The book was about a cancer ridden girl, Hazel, who had received a little more time on Earth upon receiving treatment. Hazel met Augustus Waters, who changed Hazel’s life forever. “The Fault in our Stars”, written by award-winning author John Green, has won the Goodreads Choice Awards Best Young Adult Fiction award, and has been made into a movie. The movie has won the MTV Movie Award for Best Movie in 2015. Goodreads deemed the book, “brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.” Despite all of its publicity, I have not yet read nor seen the movie. After reading the summary, I found myself with a desperate urge to discover how Augustus Waters changed Hazel’s life, especially when Hazel’s lifespan was heavily influenced by cancer. I believe that this book report would be the perfect opportunity for me to enjoy the book as well as analyze it to understand it fully.

She taught herself to read and shared all of her stories and books with her neighbors and the Jewish man she secretly hid in her basement. I have heard of this book before and told myself to pick it up some time, but I never have. Now I have the opportunity to do so. What enhances this opportunity even more was that the book was set in the perspective of a girl during World War II. Because we are reading “Night” and learning about World War II in social studies, I thought this book would be very appropriate for the curriculum.
